Are you using the right lubricant for your sex life?

Written by: Bestvibe Published on September 25,2024

 A good body lubricant not only increases lubrication effect, enhances sexual pleasure, makes sex life more harmonious and enhances the relationship between partners;

At the same time, it has the ability to reduce skin damage, reduce the chance of bacteria, viruses and other harmful microorganisms eroding the human body;

It can effectively reduce condom breakage and lower the chance of unsafe sex.

What types of body lubricants do we commonly find?

Currently, lubricants are divided into three main categories: oil-based, water-based, and silicone-based.
Generally lubricants are labeled on their packaging as to which type they belong to, making it easy to choose.

How do I select a body lubricant?

Water-based lubricants

  • Water-soluble lubricants, the most common type of lubricant, are composed of water, propylene glycol, glycerin, cellulose, etc., and look a lot like water.
  •  It can usually be scrubbed with water after use without the concern of creating a greasy feeling, which is why it is widely used.

Because of this, it is easily absorbed and evaporated and has to be temporarily 'refueled' in the middle.

Pros:

Easy to buy.

Doesn't stain sheets, easy to wash
Can be used with condoms or toys

Disadvantages:

Doesn't last well (need to keep adding more)

Silicone-based lubricants

  • Silicone is widely used in lubricant products as a new material.
  • It has no effect on the quality of condoms made of latex, so the lubricants we see on condoms are mainly these products.
  • Silicone-based lubricants are not absorbed by the skin and have better durability.
  • Most silicone-based lubricants are hypoallergenic and are more suitable for skin that is prone to allergies.
  • Because of their thicker texture and better lubrication, silicone-based lubricants are great for gay friends.
  • However, there are precautions to be taken when using silicone-based lubricants. Silicone-based lubricants should never be used with small toys made from pure silicone, as the pure silicone will be dissolved by it, the same way that oil-based lubricants dissolve condoms.
  • Of course, in general, there is no problem, because the small toys on the market are rarely made of pure silicone. Also, note that if silicone-based lubricants get on top of your clothes they can be very difficult to clean.

Pros:

Better durability
Better lubrication

Disadvantages:

Slightly more expensive
Can't be used with silicone toys
It's a bit tricky to wash, you have to use soap to get it clean

oil-based lubricants

  • The history is relatively long, at first people used coconut oil, olive oil and other vegetable oil components, and later there is a mineral oil components.
  • Oil-based lubricants are not volatile, very long-lasting and very slippery, but because it is difficult to wash, easy to trigger perianal and rectal discomfort, and will damage latex condoms and rubber toys, many health experts do not recommend using

Pros:

No need for mid-course refueling

Disadvantages:

Risk of condoms breaking and falling off

Not easy to clean
Tend to collect bacteria around the anus causing rectal discomfort
